For modern companies, social media marketing has become a huge source of traffic. This is true especially to those who are targeting the younger demographic.
It is very rare to find a business these days that does not engage with Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms. Meanwhile, one platform that isn’t typically viewed from a marketing perspective is Snapchat, the social media app that allows users to send limited-viewing-time, self-destructing video and picture messages.
Snapchat might not seem like an ideal platform for marketing, but the statistics might surprise you: according to Sumpto, a company focused on marketing to college-age individuals, 73% of college students would open a Snapchat from a familiar brand, and 45% would open one from an unfamiliar brand.
With Snapchat having 30 million users as of December, it had surpassed the number of users on Instagram in the US alone, and has growing usage abroad. The picture messages do disappear as soon as a user views them, but there are still some interesting, and novel, marketing possibilities.
Immediacy of the experience is the number one reason why Snapchat is interesting. While there are workarounds to save the images, there’s still a time limit on how long it will be on the app. As a marketer, you can add a sense of urgency. If you want to grow your business, then think of smart ideas and use Snapchat to your advantage.
